Lie in a warm bath - what could be nicer? Is that a bath with a fragrant bomb. It can be expensive to buy it, but to make it yourself is quite easy and even interesting. You can make your own bombshell exactly according to the recipe or cut in the creativity and create your own unique options: add different aromatic oils and components that are useful for the skin: dead sea salts, oils, flower petals and everything.

Some of the ingredients of the bombs can be found right in your kitchen, but if you want something more useful for the skin, you will have to go to the store for healthy products or visit the specialized department of body care products.

You can use your creations yourself or make a great gift to friends and relatives. Try to make the bomb exactly according to the recipe, and when you figure out the technology, experiment with the components.

Step # 1 Equipment

For homemade bombs you will need:

  • kitchen scales
  • large mixing bowl
  • cold water spray
  • latex gloves for protecting hands
  • eye protection
  • dust mask gauze
  • sieve to sift mixture
  • molds for bombs (if you did not find a spherical mold, you can use any options for baking, for ice cubes, etc.)

Step # 2 Ingredients

  • 300 g of soda
  • 150 grams of citric acid
  • 5-10 ml of essential or aromatic oil to choose
  • 5 ml of simple oil (it can be sunflower, olive, grape, sweet almond, jojoba oil or others, to choose from)
  • food color of the desired color

It is better to make smaller bombs, because they hold better, and larger ones often fall apart.

One more thing: start with a small amount, because you first need to find the best consistency. In the manufacture of bombs, everything is important, up to weather conditions - with high humidity you need to add less water, otherwise the bomb will turn into a bubbling mass.

Step # 4 Add Oil

Add aromatic and regular oils to the bowl. Most of the essential oils will not make the mixture sizzle, but some, mostly citrus, can. If this happens, mix them up as quickly as possible.

Do not mix aromatic and essential oils together - add either one or the other.

Step # 6 Coloring

Now we start to paint the mixture. If you use a food or cosmetic dye, add it drop by drop to get the desired color. Stir the mixture quickly with your hands so that it does not foam.

If you are using powdered dye, just add a little to the mixture and mix until you get the desired color.

Stir until the mixture has a uniform shade, without stains. Especially carefully it is necessary to interfere, if you use a powder dye. It is best to “grind” the mixture between the fingers.

If the mixture becomes more humid, do not leave it, otherwise it may settle. On the contrary, you need to do everything as quickly as possible.

Step # 7 Add water

Add some spray water, then mix continuously to avoid hissing. Be careful not to add too much water — the mixture should remain a bit crumbly, but stick together if you just squeeze it in your hand.

Step # 8 Fill out the form

Fill the form with the mixture. If you use two halves of a sphere, put the mixture in each of them and seal them together. Do not twist the halves, just firmly press them together. Wait a few minutes, then gently remove the bonded mixture from the molds.

Step # 10 Use or give

That's it, your fragrant homemade bath bombs are ready. Just dip them in hot water and enjoy.

Remember: the fresher the bomb, the more it will hiss, and if you do not pack your products, it is better to keep them in a dry place. You can pack them in cling film to keep them fresh longer.

Well, if you decide to donate them, simply choose a beautiful package and a ribbon, and the gift is ready.

  • If the slurry does not want glistening or crumble after drying, it means that you have not moistened it a little.
  • Use a spray bottle to avoid overdoing the amount of water.
  • If you have only solid butter, then it must be melted in the bath.
  • Do not use apricot and peach seed oils, as the mass, where they are added, does not preserve its shape.

Why is it better to cook bombs for the bath yourself

The meaning of making such bombs with your own hands is not so much in cost savings as in real health benefits and body skin. The very colorful balls that can be found on the shelves of every large supermarket for little money contain harmful substances and dyes. For young children and allergy sufferers, they may carry a potential hazard. The fact is that soda ash is often included in purchase bombs, which is used to make fairly aggressive cleaning products. Also often used synthetic dyes and cheap substitutes for aromatic oils.

Of course, you can go to the store of natural cosmetics and buy there "geysers" from high-quality raw materials. But such shops are far from being in every city and there are bombs of considerable money there. They are produced mainly from inexpensive ingredients, and the price is often artificially high due to the single name “natural”.

As you can see, the meaning of the preparation of bath bombs is:

  • first, you will always know what you put there,
  • secondly, you save money and buy only ingredients for cooking,
  • thirdly, you have an excellent opportunity to fantasize with the components and use only those ingredients that are specifically for you,
  • Fourth, you can make a great gift with your own hands for a loved one.
Using dried rose flowers, you can make incredibly beautiful and fragrant bombs.

Ingredients for making

There are many recipes for creating home bombs, but most of them begin with the preparation of a classic base. You will need the following components:

  • baking soda,
  • lemon acid,
  • base oil (olive, coconut, wheat germ oil, etc.).

For the "bubbling" effect are only two ingredients - soda and citric acid. Being dissolved in water, they interact with each other and a well-known chemical reaction begins. Essential oils, flavors, ground coffee, dried herbs and petals are responsible for the aroma. Use also fillers with a caring effect: potato or corn starch, dry cream or milk, sea salt. Color is provided by food dyes, colored sea salt, coffee, cocoa, etc.

In many recipes it is indicated that it is better to grind citric acid into a powder. Since it is volatile and can cause irritation of the mucous membranes, it is recommended to wear a protective mask during grinding. The lid of the coffee grinder is also not opened immediately, but they are waiting for the caustic dust to settle.

Table: Variations of Bomb Bomb Ingredients

Base oil is used as a binding component. Without it, it will not be possible to make a bomb of soda, citric acid and fillers. In addition, it cares for the skin, nourishes and moisturizes it. As a base oil, wheat germ oil is best used. It is light, quickly absorbs the skin and does not clog pores. It is also possible to use other oils as a main or additional component: grape seed, almond, jojoba, macadamia, cocoa, sea buckthorn, etc.

For beneficial aromatherapy it is better to use only high-quality natural essential oils. You can also use food and cosmetic flavors, which can be bought in stores for soap makers.

It is not advisable to use mineral oils and synthetic essential oils. They are often the culprits of allergic reactions and can adversely affect your skin and health.

Large drops of water can cause a reaction and the bomb will fail.

These small bath balls are used as decoration.

Cream and milk powder is added to soften the skin while bathing. Since they are undesirable for oily and problem skin, it is better to replace them with corn or potato starch. Sea salt nourishes the skin with useful minerals and a positive effect on the body as a whole. Also healing properties of clay (kaolin), which can be purchased at the pharmacy. Dried petals and herbs additionally saturate the water with aromas and turn bathing into real pleasure.

Polysorbate (emulsifier) and Lush Foam Frother can be found in a specialty store for making cosmetics. They are not required components. Thanks to polysorbate, the oil will not form a greasy film on the surface of the water and the walls of the bath, but will completely dissolve. A frother will be needed to get foam while the geyser bombs are boiling.

With the help of lush foam foam you can make a foaming geyser bomb

Dyes are purely decorative value. If you are afraid of allergies or you are just an opponent of various "chemicals", you can do without them. The same petals, weeds, zest and coffee will be able to give the bombs beautiful color without harm to health. Never use pigments of dubious quality or are not intended for the preparation of cosmetics.

For painting bombs in the desired color do not use artistic paints (gouache, acrylic, etc.). They can clog pores, paint the bath and body, and also cause severe allergic reactions.

You will not need dyes if you add such colored salt to the mixture

In addition to components for cooking, you will also need:

  • forms for bombs,
  • small deep bowl (preferably glass or porcelain),
  • gloves,
  • tablespoon to measure ingredients and knead,
  • beaker,
  • electronic kitchen scales,
  • coffee grinder or mortar for grinding,
  • small spray (for water),
  • food film.

The mold can be bought in a specialized store for soap making. In the same place you can find bath beads, fragrances for cosmetics and a foaming agent. Instead of special molds, you can use chocolate candy trays, ice molds, pastry spoons for cutting balls, cake muffins and much more. If you do not care about the appearance of the bombs, then blind them with your hands, like snowballs.

That's what happens if you put fresh or dried flowers on the bottom of the form

The grinder and mortar will be needed to grind ingredients such as citric acid and sea salt. The smaller the components, the better they will bond to each other. Gloves are used to keep hands from burning during work. The fact is that citric acid with direct contact can irritate sensitive skin and cause a burning sensation in places of abrasions, burrs and wounds. But while taking a bath with the use of such a homemade bomb, citric acid dissolves in large amounts of water and does not adversely affect the skin.

Since essential oils tend to “exhale” over time, each finished bomb should be wrapped in food film or placed in a closed air-tight bag. Ready "pops" stored in a dry place.

How to make different types of bombs at home: recipes with photos

All recipes differ in the components used, the desired effects and smells, as well as fillers (salt, petals, coffee, etc.). You can cook "geysers" for kids with a minimal amount of ingredients, without artificial colors, and only with those essential oils that rarely cause allergic reactions.

Recipe number 1 - the classic oil bomb without water

Starch or sea salt can be used as a filler. Salt crystals are quite large, so they are first ground in a coffee grinder or mortar.

The number of ingredients is calculated on 3 balls. You will need:

  • Baking soda - 4 tbsp. l.,
  • citric acid - 2 tbsp. l.,
  • sea salt - 2 tbsp. l.,
  • base oil (from wheat germ or what is) - 1 tbsp. l.,
  • flavor - 10 drops,
  • liquid food dye - 10 drops,
  • form for bombs.

If you wish, you can use an emulsifier, but then you have to take half a tablespoon of oil and the same amount of emulsifier.

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Prepare all the ingredients and wear gloves. First you need to mix citric acid, soda and salt
  2. Mix soda, ground salt and citric acid.
  3. Add flavor and color. Ingredients can be mixed with a whisk
  4. Pour the base oil into the dry mixture, add lavender essential oil. Spoon measure the right amount of oil and add to the dry mixture.
  5. All mix thoroughly until smooth. Essential oil is added directly to the mixture.
  6. After preparation of the mixture, you can start forming balls.
  7. Fill one half of the form and pack it well. The finished mixture is filled into the form and tightly tamped with a spoon
  8. Fill the other half and make a small mound.
  9. Connect the halves, pressing them tightly to each other.
  10. Allow the product to dry for an hour and then carefully remove the form.
  11. Remove ugly irregularities.
  12. Put the bomb on paper and leave to dry for 24 hours.
  13. Store in a dry place, wrapped in food film. The bomb can be placed in a plastic bag and tied with a cord

Properly prepared mixture should be well molded and be of consistency, like wet sand. Also, the bombs do not dry in the oven - from this they can crack and crumble.

Instead of flavors, you can use essential oils, then the bomb will be more natural. In this case, it is also worth refusing emulsifiers and dyes. For dyeing the mixture in a beautiful color, use ground coffee, grated lemon and orange zest, chopped petals and herbs.

You can also make two-color and even multi-colored bombs. Simply divide the base mixture into pieces and paint in different colors. Fill the halves on your own. You can apply a mixture of layers to make striped balls, or simply fill each half with one color.

By combining colors you can make bright and beautiful “pops” for bathing.

If the bombs are poorly molded and crumbled, then you can use ethyl alcohol to moisten the mixture. It is volatile, unlike water, it slowly reacts with soda and acid. Alcohol is poured into a small spray and sprinkle the mixture.

Recipe №2 - orange-grapefruit bomb with water, without starch and dry cream

The number of ingredients is designed for the preparation of one medium-size bomber. You will need a small spray bottle to add water. The amount of water indicated is approximate and you should see for yourself how much it will be needed for optimal wetting of the mixture.

Water is added at a distance by disposable zilchs and quickly mixed everything.

So, you need the following components:

  • 2 tbsp. l soda,
  • 1 tbsp. l citric acid
  • 1 tbsp. l crushed sea salt,
  • 5 drops of grapefruit flavoring,
  • 5 drops of orange essential oil,
  • 5 drops of liquid cosmetic dye "Yellow"
  • 5-7 drops of wheat germ oil,
  • 1 tsp water.

  1. Crush citric acid in a mortar.
  2. The resulting powder is mixed with soda and acid. Soda, citric acid and salt are mixed with a spoon
  3. Add oils, flavoring and coloring.
  4. Stir the ingredients until smooth. After adding the dye mixture is thoroughly mixed.
  5. Add water from the spray bottle and mix well.
  6. Fill in one half of the form, and then the other. Filling the form, you need to well tamp the mixture
  7. Tamp everything tightly and then join the halves. Halves, filled with the finished mixture, tightly connected to each other
  8. Carefully get the bomb out of shape and remove the irregularities from the resulting ball.
  9. Leave the bomb to dry for 24 hours on paper.
  10. Wrap in food film and store in a dry place. If you put a bit of oatmeal on the bottom of the form, you will get a very nice bomb

There are two ways to make bombs.

The 1st method of cooking is to prepare bombs without using water. In this case, we take soda (2 parts), citric acid (1 part), and any natural filler (for example, 1 part dried milk), base oil (1 part) (these can be olive, walnut oil, sea buckthorn, almond), If desired, you can add essential oils based on 1 bath 10 drops. Grind citric acid in any way (use caution - citric dust irritates the airways!). We mix all the components, lay out in any form and leave for one hour.

The second method of cooking is to prepare bombs using water. For the preparation we use all the same components, in this case you can refuse to use oils or reduce the amount. Water is injected 1-3 times into the mixed components from a spray bottle and immediately mixed. Your weight should be a little wet and cling. If you overdo it with water, then the reaction will start in your bomb, without waiting for it to get into the bathroom. We put the prepared mixture into the form, having received the form, remove the finished bomb and leave it to dry.

TIP: In the manufacture of bombs for the bath with their own hands as the best forms to use silicone forms. It is not necessary to use plastic and rigid forms, the mass of them will be difficult to remove.

For lovers of spices

To make spicy bombs we need soda (2 parts), crushed citric acid (1 part), sea salt (1 part), powdered milk (1 part), cinnamon, vanillin, and cloves for decoration. To add flavor, we use essential oils - geranium, lavender, sweet orange, cinnamon. The cooking process is identical, as in the manufacture of bombs using water.

TIP: When grinding citric acid, be careful with its dust!

Bomber for the bath "Antistress"

To create an anti-stress bomb, you will need a set of the following ingredients:

  • Baking soda - 4 tbsp.
  • Citric acid - 2 tablespoons,
  • Food salt - 1 tbsp,
  • Dry milk - 3 tbsp.
  • Almond oil - 2 tbsp.
  • Essential oil (lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus or bergamot) - 10-20 drops,
  • Dried herbs (chamomile flowers, green tea, lavender, lemon balm) - 1 tbsp.

In a mortar or coffee grinder, carefully grind soda and citric acid to prevent the ingress of large pieces. Separately, grind dried herbs to fine crumbs.
Using a spoon, carefully mix all the dry ingredients in a separate container.

Then the base oil is gradually added to the resulting powder mixture, literally a few drops. Pour in the same essential oil slowly. Continue stirring until smooth.

Carefully add water (it is advisable to use a pulvelinator for uniform application) until the mass starts to foam and sizzle.
Take a little mass with a dry hand and slightly squeeze. It is very important that it does not fall apart and keep its shape, otherwise after drying the finished product will crumble. If the mass is dry, add a little oil or a couple of drops of water, but do not overdo it.

Spread the mixture in pre-oiled tins, and tamp it well. Leave the mold for 4-5 hours (depending on size) in a dry place. Here it is important not to overdo it - it will be very problematic to get the dried out bombs out of shape. After the allotted time, get the bombs and shift to a dry place for further storage for 1-2 days.

  • Honey - 1 tbsp.
  • Bergamot essential oil - 10-20 drops,
  • Ground oatmeal - 1 tbsp.

Honey and oatmeal are great for dry and irritated skin prone to flaking. The ingredients used stimulate cell renewal, nourish the skin and improve blood circulation.

As in the previous recipes, separately mix all dry and liquid ingredients. Candied honey is recommended to be pre-melted in a water bath so that it mixes well with the other components.

Combine the oil-honey mixture with the powder of dry ingredients and mix thoroughly until smooth. Part of the oatmeal can be used as a decoration when tamping the mass in molds.
Such a bomb should dry out within 4-6 hours.

In the manufacture of bombs with your own hands, you are 100% sure of the quality of the ingredients and the absence of harmful additives in their composition. Homemade beads are much more aromatic and healthy for your skin.

  • First you need to protect yourself - that is, wear gloves, goggles, a mask and an apron.
  • Pour citric acid in the ratio of 2 to 1 (for example, 10 tablespoons of soda will need 5 tablespoons of acid). And mix them quickly.
  • Then add the base oil (skin will say thank you) to the mixture - olive, almond, linseed, grape seed, and any other suitable for your skin type.
  • After that, you can carefully enter 10-12 drops of essential oil. Then mix everything up quickly.

  • Additional ingredients are also added - flower petals, dried herbs, ground coffee or oatmeal, starch, dry cream and others. When all the components are connected, the mass must be thoroughly mixed again. After you can begin to fill out the form. But there are a couple of things you need to know. There are two ways to create bombs for the bath - dry and wet. The dry is described above, the difference is wet in that before modeling a lot of sprinkling should be sprinkled with a couple of zilia from the spray gun. But so that the mixture remained crumbly, but when compressed it was sufficiently sticky and kept its shape.

Ready mass is needed tamp tightly in molds and leave for 30 minutes. Then the form can be removed, and the ball left to dry for another day in a dry and warm place. After the required time has expired, the bomb must be wrapped in food film and sent to the refrigerator until it is used. It is necessary that they are not damp, otherwise they can give a reaction.

Here is a review from the creator of this wonderful recipe that lives in Germany:

The recipe was born very long, and the solution was found unexpectedly and simply. It turned out that finding baking soda and citric acid in Germany is not so easy. At first I stopped at the baking powder for the dough (almost the same soda) and thought that citric acid can be replaced with vitamin C and ... and then it dawned on me! Vitamin C is sold in effervescent tablets (like new aspirin) and not only it, but also calcium, magnesia, a multivitamin with all the options for vitamins and many more, a lot of useful and most importantly effervescent! And what is important that we have all this stuff sold for a penny in any supermarket and pharmacy.
